RECOGNITION OF JERUSALEM AS ISRAEL’S CAPITAL:

The debate presented  to us, chaired by Emily Maitlis presenter of The BBC Newsnight, was about the topic that “The world should recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital” and there were four speakers. Ehud Omert and Natasha Hausdorff were in the favour of the topic and against them were Jack straw and Ghada karmi. The decision of Donald Trump of recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and also to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem embarks an outrage among many states world wide.
The Palestinian’s ambassador Dr. Husam Zomlot and the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims that Trump’s move will declare a war on about 1.5 billion Muslims and could  plunge the world into a fire with no end in sight and this dispute is described as one of the most intractable issues in Israel - Palestine conflict. Other countries also warn them that the recognition of Jerusalem as a capital would be a mortal blow for the Israel- Palestine peace project.
As you all know that Jerusalem also known as Old City is a sacred ground for all Christians, Jews and Muslims as it contains many Holy sites. It’s no secret that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel as Israel’s Prime Minister and President resides there, but every state should have the right to choose there own capital. This recognition would be a death of Israeli-Palestinian peace progress because East Jerusalem has been occupied by Israel which instantly gives dominion over many Palestinian residents , also on many holy sites in the world. Palestinians believe that Jerusalem doesn’t completely belongs to Israel and insist to include East Jerusalem as their capital in Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement, but also recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would be a disclaimer for the basic rights of the Palestinian people to their own homeland.
