Being Neighbourly — Abdul Hakim Murad

Abdul Hakim Murad is an English Muslim Scholar, researcher and writer speak about significance of the month of Ramadan that how a person evolve in such a short time towards his betterment. This month of the year is also known as the month of blessings from God to his loved one. In the month of Ramadan we connect with our biological dependencies and rootedness. We realize our weaknesses and brokenness or how we depend on our Creator for smallest thing . Five pillars of Islam is a collective aspect of sunnah. He said that religion is interaction with others and our principles of ibadah are solitary like nawafil or tahajjud or sadqa or fasting but fundamentally all of these practices performed in the engagement with human beings. Fasting is an individual act however it is the most collective of all, people come together for Iftar and Taraweeh. Furthermore, he said Ramadan is the month in which we embrace the others in solidarity which comes with the gratitude from breaking bread together and collectively listening to the voice of eternity. He also explains the importance of neighbour or how to treat them better. Neighbours are the important part of islamic ethics. He gave many references or hadith by Holy Prophet (S.A.W) on how to behave with your neighbours or respect or honour them. He then explains what’s the position of neighbours in Islam and what neighbours actually are. Neighbour doesn’t have to be a Muslim in order to honour them. Sheikh Abdul Hakim Murad said make people love your religion by behaving lovely with them. Being a good neighbour does not mean to just not annoy your neighbour but do not get annoyed by their behaviour. Same goes for the mosques if you are designing a new mosque in you area make sure to construct it beautiful. The structure of the mosque should be attractive, luminous and breathtaking in this way you can make people love Islam or attracted towards it.
